Common FOOT PROBLEMS
Warts:
This condition is a soft tissue infection caused by a virus. This disease changes the texture of the skin to a rough callused pattern. The lesion usually has pinpoint black dots and is gray in color.Treatments could include:
Shaving the lesion, applying acid to the site or surgical excision.

Ingrown Nail:
This is a condition in which the corner of the nail will dig into the skin and cause pain, irritation and infection. This is most often due to the type of the nailand tight shoes.Treatments could include:Removal of the corner of the nail and/or removal of the nail root.

Diabetic Foot:
A diabetic patient is more prone to have foot problems than the general public. The reason for this incidence is that diabetics usually do not have great circulation. They may also not have much sensation in their feet. These two deficiencies will lead to delayed healing and if not cared for amputation. A diabetic patient should follow with his Podiatric physician frequently.

Corn:
This condition is caused by rubbing of the foot against the shoe. It is most common on top of the toes; and it is very frequent in African Americans.
Treatments could include: The non-surgical treatments for this condition include use of bigger shoes and use of splints. The surgical treatment for this condition is usually done same day and leaves very little to no scar. For pictures go to the before and after gallery.

Hammertoe:
A hammertoe is a contracture-or bending- of the toe at the first joint of the digit. This bending causes the toe to appear like an upside-down V when looked at from the side. The pain is usually worse with shoe gear and many times a corn develops on top of the toe.
Treatments could include: Padding, orthotics, medications and surgery.

Brachymetatarsia:
A condition which happens mostly in women. In this condition the bone in the fourth toe stops growing in childhood leading to a floppy toe. This deformity usually causes shoe rub of the floppy toe and pain.
Treatments could include: Change of shoe, use of splints and surgical treatments. The surgical treatments involve lengthening the metatarsal.
